Well, it's sixth down and only meters to go (I don't really know football) in the Red Adept cul-de-sac of the 2013 Hundie Challenge - boy, that was an exhausting sentence to type. But, yeah, after next week, it's straight classics for the rest of the year. So, if you've been enjoying these little diversions, sorry about that.
This week we're talking about THOUGHT I KNEW YOU by Kate Moretti aka the second romance novel I ever read. It's also known as TIKY (pronounced like "tiki" torch, which, frankly, awesome.) Let's see if I can't nail down a tagline for TIKY.
THOUGHT I KNEW YOU is like...I dunno...THE LAKE HOUSE meets THE FORGOTTEN.
Sorry, I haven't seen a whole lot of romances. Well, I guess I have, honestly, but I was wracking my brain trying to think of one where you're supposed to love one guy but you love the other and I feel like they're all like that, but the only one that occurred to me was RUNAWAY BRIDE and that didn't really seem to make a whole lot of sense. So I decided to just go with the mystery element and pick THE LAKE HOUSE.
Ah, see, I haven't mentioned the mystery element of this book so far. That's the real draw. I don't think I'm ruining anything (since it's mentioned in the first paragraph, but the main character's husband just up and disappears mysteriously. And then the whole rest of the book is her trying to come to terms with that, and learn who the guy who she thought she knew (hey, that's the title!) really was and how she moves on. It's really very well executed. And Kate Moretti is a fun lady and Pennsylvania native, so, you know, KEYSTONE PRIIIDE! (I have no idea if that's a thing. If it's not, it is now.)
